We are now less than three months away from the great premiere of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, the HBO phenomenon that returns with new episodes after almost two years of nothing.

After the release of the promotional trailer a few days ago, now a scientific study has just predicted which characters would die before seeing the grand finale of Game of Thrones.

It was done by epidemiological experts specialized in wounds at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, who used their knowledge to analyze what is required to survive or die in this dangerous magical medieval-style world.

The academics went through the 7 previous seasons of Game of Thrones and analyzed 330 characters, all of them human, without White Walkers, for example, and with that they obtained data on mortality within this world.

The study, which was published in the journal Injury Epidemology, says that of the 330 characters, 184 (56.4%) have already died and only two of them were due to causes other than injuries, burns or poisonings. The majority of those deaths, 63.0%, were by assault, while 24.4% were due to war operations. This means that there are only 146 studio characters alive in season eight.

Who will die in the final season of Game of Thrones?

After reviewing all the data they obtained, the Australian scientists pointed out that the characters who are most at risk of not reaching the very end are none other than Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister because they have shown a high degree of loyalty.

In contrast, those who would be more likely to live during the 73 episodes of the series are the sisters Arya and Sansa Stark, largely because their loyalties, although permanently orbiting the Stark house, have been paid to several other entities, including their archenemies, the Lannisters.

As for Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister, they claim that they are also prone to not making it and their probability of dying is no less than that of the Stark sisters.

Other data offered by the study indicates that the survival time of the characters within the series is between 11 seconds and 57 hours with 15 minutes. The average survival time is 28 hours and 48 minutes. It means that the probability of dying during the first hour is 14%.
