Sony Pictures has set the sequel to Jason Reitman’s “Ghostbusters” ready to hit the big screen on July 10, 2020. The studio made the announcement on Friday afternoon, 10 days after revealing that Reitman was on board to direct the sequel without title.

Reitman’s father, Ivan, directed the original “Ghostbusters,” starring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver. Murray’s character, Peter Venkman, headed a team of parapsychologists who started a ghost-catching business in New York City. The 1984 film grossed $242 million in the United States and more than $295 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing comedy film of its time.

Jason Reitman co-wrote the script with Gil Kenan for the sequel. He plans to shoot the film during the second half of this year and has begun the casting process for young actors. This installment will not be related to the movie “Ghostbusters” from 2016, starring Melissa McCarthy. Sony took a first look at the project last week with images of the Ecto-1 vehicle from the original film.

Sony also announced on Friday that it has set July 31, 2020 as the launch date to its Marvel partnership project “Morbius.” Variety reported this week that Matt Smith was in final talks to join Jared Leto on the project, a movie based on the vampire villain from Spider-Man. The director of “Safe House” Daniel Espinosa will direct the film.

In addition, Sony said that its World War II action film “Greyhound,” starring Tom Hanks, will be delayed more than a year from March 22, 2019 to May 8, 2020, which will coincide with the 75th. anniversary of Victory Day in Europe, which is celebrated on May 9 in commemoration of the victory of the Soviet Union and the allies over Nazi Germany during World War II.

Sony also said that the movie “Black and Blue” also has a date, a police thriller starring Naomie Harris, for September 20, and postponed the Fred Rogers biopic “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” also starring Hanks, a month back, from October 18 to November 22, the weekend before Thanksgiving.
