A galaxy far, far away – Stuck Design, a design studio based in Singapore, has developed an automatic sliding door that is activated with hand movement and without the need to touch it, a system that will make more than one ‘Star Wars’ fan feel like a true Jedi using ‘force’.

The new Kinetic Touchless 2.0 built-in door system replaces the traditional weight or motion sensors currently used. Instead, it has a panel that is activated when it detects a hand and recognizes the direction in which it is moving, to then move accordingly and thus give the user absolute control with a simple gesture.

As detailed by Stuck Design, as a hand approaches the panel, it displays an animation that indicates the remaining distance to fully activate. After the proximity recognition is completed, the display shows two side arrows to indicate the mechanism is ready for operation.

According to its creators, this technology will help reduce energy consumption by activating only when necessary. Likewise, by not requiring any contact to open and close, it could reduce the transmission of pathogens.
