One of the most moving and unexpected moments of the last episode of Game of Thrones was when, after burning the Iron Throne, Drogon leaves Jon Snow without consequence for killing the queen and takes Daenerys Targaryen’s body and flies away from King’s Landing.

The action of the dragon, which from that moment became the only survivor of his family, did not go unnoticed by fans and now the leading producers of the series clarified what Drogon did with his mother’s body.

In the comments included with the Blu-ray release of the eighth season (via EW ). About the scene, the actress Daenerys, Emilia Clarke, points out that fans told her that dragons eat their owners. However, showrunners refuted that idea.

“Drogon’s not going to eat you,” Benioff told her. “He’s not a cat. Did you see how gently he was nudging you?”

Since Drogon did not eat Daenerys, as the comment reaffirms, the dragon was headed for Volantis with Khaleesi’s corpse.

Of course, Volantis is the largest and oldest of the Free Cities. This city is recognized for its past linked with an attempt to restore the Valyrian Empire after the Curse and its history is also linked to the Targaryen dynasty.

In addition in the same place is located the Temple of the Lord of Light, the deity of Melisandre, and where Kinvara resides, the high priestess who told Tyrion and Varys that Daenerys was betrothed. Something that has inevitably prompted theories about an eventual resurrection of the Mother of Dragons. But that is far from being confirmed. At least we now know that Drogon did not eat Daenerys and simply took her body to Volantis.

Somehow that makes sense, perhaps not as much as the dragon traveling to Valyria. Of course, that resolution off screen may not be enough for the fans of the character. Ultimately, these producers will always have the last word in this matter.
