The original Netflix series created by the Duffer brothers; ‘Stranger Things,’ has a lot of fiction within its history. However, like in many stories it has a touch of reality, and that is why it has been revealed that the CIA’s MK-Ultra project (also known as the mind control project) is very real real .

The creators were able to take a fictional approach with ‘Stranger Things,’ but there are certain aspects of the true story mixed into the narrative. Those are the conflicts that the United States has with Russia, as well as US government cover-up of certain projects that never came to light until many years later.

The project shares bits of reality to the MK-Ultra project, which according to papers that were revealed in 2001, was very real. This project was a secret mind control program carried out by the CIA. The sting operation began in 1953 as a way to develop techniques to take advantage of enemies during the Cold War.

This was accomplished through human experimentation, and was done so that the CIA could weaken enemies to force information through mind control methods. For obvious reasons, this entire project was illegal as it included the use of involuntary test subjects coming from Canada and the United States.

These experiments, as seen in the series, were also performed at more than 80 institutions which included universities, hospitals, and in some cases even prisons. Some of the files from the operation were destroyed by the CIA director in the middle of Watergate Scandal, but key information was made public in 2001 .

According to those CIA documents, the operation focused on chemical, biological, and radiological methods of mind control. To assess mental states and brain functions, subjects were exposed to high doses of psychoactive drugs such as LSD, often without their consent, and were then questioned to see if they revealed secrets. In addition, sensory deprivation, hypnosis, electro-shock and other forms of torture were utilized.

All of this is seen in the ‘Stranger Things’ series, when it is revealed that the Hawkins National Laboratory was one of the institutions that participated in the MK-Ultra project under the leadership of Dr. Martin Brenner. The one who suffers the consequences of all this was Eleven’s mother, who thanks to the inhumane practices of the project, Eleven obtains her powers and the entire history of the series begins to take shape.
