Does a frog that blinks like Christmas lights sound unreal to you? Not anymore. A viral video shows this incredible moment, where a firefly continues to lit up from inside the stomach of a small amphibian which swallowed it up.
A small frog has turned into a flashing light thanks to a firefly. This small luminous insect lights up the night beautifully.
The amphibian that swallowed the insect did not stop emitting light from the inside of it’s belly, says The Daily Mail.
This frog, which consumed the bug and jumped on a wall, was filmed in Nashville, United States.
Despite the unusual event that unfolded, the firefly was actually no longer alive. The phenomenon we are witnessing is entirely the result of an organic chemical process that creates this warm glow called bioluminescence.
When oxygen combines with the calcium and chemical luciferin in the presence of luciferase, the bioluminescent enzyme is produced, creating this glow.
As the insect is absorbed by the frog’s digestive system, the chemicals are again exposed to each other and the firefly appears alive inside the frog’s belly.
