The man hired to scare visitors wakes up surrounded by his dead coworkers. He cannot remember what happened, and the hunt for a killer is closing in on him.
That is the premise of Slayground, the new A24 thriller from Green Room and Rebel Ridge filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier. Its official teaser arrived on October 20, introducing Cory Michael Smith as scare actor “Metal Mike” Graves.
According to A24’s synopsis, Mike wakes inside a haunted attraction after the deaths and becomes the target of a statewide manhunt. Finding out what happened may be his only way through, even if the answer points straight back to him.
The setup gives this Halloween nightmare a second source of tension. Alongside the haunted-attraction horror is a pursuit thriller, with a protagonist trying to investigate a crime he cannot rule himself out of committing. A24 has not supplied an answer to that central question.
Previously known as October, the film is written and directed by Saulnier. Chase Sui Wonders, Sophie Wilde, Imogen Poots, James Badge Dale and Stephen Root are among the ensemble. Bloody Disgusting reports that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross provide the music.
The calendar supplies one final twist: this Halloween-set thriller opens in theaters on January 29, 2027. For now, the official teaser is above.
