Although the airline reported that the flight landed without resulting in any injuries to passengers and crew, pieces of the aircraft fell on a residential area of Broomfield, 25 miles from Denver, Colorado.

A United Airlines plane traveling to Honolulu suffered an engine failure shortly after takeoff from Denver International Airport on Saturday, and threw debris on its return to the runway, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

Police in Broomfield, Colorado, showed photos of the wreckage of the Boeing 777-200, but no injuries or serious devastation were reported.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the incident of United Flight 328, which was carrying 231 passengers and 10 crew members.

Images released by the Broomfield Police Department show large chunks of the plane, including the engine casing, strewn across an open field and in front of a home in the suburb, 25 miles north of Denver.

Tyler Thal, who lives in the area, told AP news that he was taking a walk with his family when he saw a large commercial airplane flying unusually low, therefore he did what most young people do, pulled out his phone to record the event. Thal was relieved to learn later that the plane had landed safely.
