Here’s a rather special video, showing whales literally dancing around a boat. These high quality footage was filmed with a drone in New Caledonia, South Pacific.

A few lucky sailors were able to witness a real aquatic ballet, with what looks like a dedicated performance given by three humpback whales, while a drone filmed the show with a high up in the air angle. Wam Wamland, who posted the video on YouTube, explains that the whales headed straight for them, circled the stationary boat for a while, then left as if they had done what they came for, delivering a quality performance.

While being surrounded by three humpback whales, each about 50 feet, can be awfully intimidating, however, these creatures are completely harmless and have a diet of mostly krill and small fish. These whales are also well known for their high intelligence.

This species has also made a comeback from being on the verge of exticntion. A few years ago, it was announced that 9 of the 14 species of humpback whales were no longer on the endangered species list!
