The video game films seem to have a strange curse. It is difficult to rescue a film worthy of our time but, above all, there are dozens of projects that begin to work and never see the light. Adaptations to the big screen of Halo and Bioshock, by Neil Blomkamp and Gore Verbinski, are two of the most popular examples. Luckily, we now know that Uncharted will not fall into that dismal group.
Shawn Levy ( Real Steel, Night At The Museum ), director of the film, has confirmed to The Playlist blog that the film about Uncharted is a project that is ready to launch. “We have a very good script and a star like Tom Holland.” However, Levy confirms that the dates of production have yet to be defined and additional work in the casting department (it is rumored that Bryan Cranston could be Sully). Be that as it may, he declares that he is “very excited” with the film.
The film rights of the Naughty Dog saga are owned by Sony and the idea of throwing this onto the big screen has been a plan for many years. So much so that they have gone through multiple scripts, deals and directors, having come up with ideas like a version that is directed by Joe Carnahan starring Mark Wahlberg. A few months ago Sony confirmed that Shawn Levy, current producer and director of Stranger Things, as the director of the project and the young star Tom Holland ( Spiderman Homecoming ) as Nathan Drake, evidencing this video games film is a go.
We continue without a date, a cast or a definitive script to grab but, it seems, the Uncharted film is closer than ever to its initiation stages. For the moment, we can settle for the glorious fan film starring Nathan Fillion, which many had imagined for years as the most charismatic adventurer in video games .
