During these last months the rumor has been that Taika Waititi would take care of the next installment of ‘Star Wars’, this due to the great work he did in directing the last episode of ‘The Mandalorian’, but it seems that Disney already has their chosen one, and not many people know who he is since his resume does not include many projects.
Reportedly, JD Dillard (Sleight) is already working with Lucasfilm on the next ‘Star Wars’ film, and this time screenwriter Matt Owens will be responsible for the next story, the plot has yet to be revealed.
This is not the first time that Dillard has contact with this emblematic saga, he previously worked with JJ Abrams in ‘The Force Awakens’, where he personified the Stormtropper FN-1226, a participation that debuted him on the big screen.
Also, Dillard has worked within the company, Bad Robot, so he has had the opportunity to work closely with Abrams, who was in charge of directing the last episode of the saga, ‘The Rise of Skywalker’.
In an interview, via the Comicbook portal , Dillard revealed that ‘The Force Awakens’ was his inspiration to move from writing to directing. “For that year on set watching one of my favorite directors helm perhaps my favorite film franchise, that was the tinder and the match strike that lit the fire in me that I wanted to evolve my career from just writing to also directing,” Dillard informed the platform the previous year. “So my first film, in a way, was inspirationally made in the shadow of The Force Awakens, which was super bizarre and super special.” said the director.
In this way, JD Dillard will be the next director of ‘Star Wars’, although it is still unknown if his film will be a spin-off or a new saga. For now it is known that this project is far from what Kevin Feige plans to do later, so Dillard could be working on a movie focused on the Jedi.
