New photos taken from Netflix’s The Witcher set indicate the presence of a more powerful Filavandrel in season 2.

They are currently filming Season 2 of The Witcher from Netflix and the public is getting a variety of news, not only the official announcements, but images from the set in Surrey, UK. The most recent leaks show the rise of the elves in The Continent.

New photos were posted on Twitter, showing the return of Tom Canton as the elven king, Filavandrel of the Silver Towers. It seems that Canton will be dressed in a slightly different suit this time, courtesy of the season 2 costume designer, Lucinda Wright. The photos also seem to show him surrounded by other elves, indicating that this is an elven camp. It is no surprise that these photos show the actress Anya Chalotra, who plays Yennefer, seen on the set in the area, accompanied by numerous extras in elf costumes.

What this suggests is that Yen will meet Filavandrel and the two, will form the elven militia. It is not clear in the photos which scene is being filmed or which story is being adapted. However, season 2 of The Witcher will probably adapt the events and characters from Blood of Elves by Andrzej Sapkowski. It is extremely likely that the elves and what appear to be humans in the images, are at the least allies, if not members of the Scoia’tael, the non-human guerrilla faction that fights the humans from the continent.

Filavandrel appeared in a single episode in Season 1, “Four Marks,” which adapted the short story, “The Edge of the World, ” and explained the state of the Elvish population in the Northern Kingdoms. Subsequent episodes did not explore how they fared in the years that followed, and presumably omitted much of the faction’s history. In fact, it is worth noting that the events that occurred in “Four Marks”, with respect to Geralt of Rivia, had taken place almost two decades before the start of season 2. This might at least help explain the new appearance of Filavandrel in the continuity of the show.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt de Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer de Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix. Season 2 is currently in production and will launch in 2021.
