A four-year-old girl had to be rescued by a passenger ship half a kilometer off the coast of Antirrio, in Greece, after sea currents carried her away from the beach where her parents were. The crew of the Salaminomachos, who had been alerted by the port authority, found the girl clinging to her unicorn float with her muffs on.

“As I approached the port of Antirrio, the port authority informed me that a girl with an inflatable toy had been swept away by the currents, ” the captain of the Salaminomachos, Grigoris Karnesis, explained to Live News . “He was in a state of shock. She was well hooked to the float and did not move, she was petrified. When she saw us and we rescued her, she cried. “

A video broadcast on social networks shows several men preparing a rope to retreave the float, but it was not necessary. The current of the Mediterranean, which in Karnesis’s words was “very strong”, led the girl to the boarding ramp of the ferry, which the captain had lowered to carry out the rescue.

The Salaminomachos docked in the port of Antirrio minutes after the rescue. The girl’s parents, who had given notice of her disappearance, ran to hug her. According to Live News, the mother was in a state of shock similar to that of her daughter when she moved away from the coast.
