A lot of Nerds really miss theaters, including us. While everything points to the fact that it will be a long time before we can sit in that big giant room to enjoy a new movie, some complexes have decided to turn the situation around.
Forbes wrote about this city in Texas where a cinema belonging to the company EVO Entertainment decided to transform its parking lot into a drive-in theater.
Thus, after painting the walls of the complex with special white granite, they began to offer free screenings for all who wanted to enjoy a projection on the big wall from the comfort of their car.
The result was a complete success. According to Forbes, all the viewings of Spider-Man Homecoming have been filled since EVO launched this initiative last Friday and after the parking lots sold out this week, the company plans to put out additional screenings.
But how does this drive-in theater work amid calls for social distancing? The organizers assert that they have taken all the pertinent measures to protect the health of the attendees and while obviously everyone must stay in their cars and receive the sound of the film through FM and AM radios, the bathrooms located inside the cinema are available with sanitary measures to maintain the allotted space between people.
“Guests will be permitted into our venues to use the restroom in groups of no-more than 10 at a time. Should a line form at any time, we have placed measured social – distancing indicators on the ground and floor to ensure all parties in line maintain 10-feet of separation.. a similar process to what you may have encountered at your local grocery stores recently. Additionally, we have temporarily disabled our air-dryers and stocked all restrooms with disposable hand-towels to prevent any enhanced risk of spreading germs. Furthermore, our team will thoroughly sanitize all hand-contact surfaces with medical grade disinfectants to ensure your safety. Use of the restrooms will be the only time guests will be allowed to enter our venues at this time,” they clarify on their website.
In addition, the movies begin at dusk and end before 10 at night, which is when the curfew initiated in that area.
All of this generates revenue for EVO Entertainment because while the shows are free, the company is making money from selling food. A process in which the appropriate measures are also being carried out to protect people’s health.
According to Forbes: “The cinema has taken significant measures to ensure the health of its patrons. Guests will have the opportunity to order menu items from the theater kitchen via a custom mobile ordering interface that was built specifically for this initiative. All payments are made through the app and no cash is accepted. When orders are ready, an EVO employee equipped with nitrile gloves brings the items to the driver side door,
