Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker had an alternative ending, probably more controversial, but bolder than we’ll ever see.

As the weeks go by, more and more details about the Star Wars film are revealed that make us better understand why the movie could be compared to Anakin’s life gradually derailing into disaster.

In a new revelation from one of the actors in the film, Juan Bautista, who acts as one of the Knights of Ren, explains that an alternative ending was filmed which would have been quite controversial, but probably better than the one we all saw.

Recall: Kylo Ren decides to disconnect from the Dark Side of the force and fight hand in hand with Rey to defeat who is really her grandfather, Emperor Palpatine.

Both beat him, but Rey dies and Kylo uses the force to revive her, but that means sacrificing his own life and disappearing to become one with force.

In the final scene we see Rey in Tatooine, where she buries the lightsabers that belonged to Luke and Leia. When a passer-by asks what her name is, she responds: “Rey, Rey Skywalker.”

For many a forced and unfortunate end. According to Bautista, the alternative version, existing in the original cut, sees Rey being dead and Kylo Ren surviving to amend all his past acts and mistakes. The end in Tatooine revealing his name: “Ben Skywalker.”

It is not clear if the ending would have been more favorable among the fans, but it would of made sense to completely eradicate Palpatine’s legacy, including his granddaughter. At least it would be a more dignified conclusion than what we saw.
