Actor Taron Egerton has reportedly been cast as John Constantine in the Netflix adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic, The Sandman.

Taron Egerton lent his voice for the character of John Constantine in the Audible version of The Sandman, so it’s quite fitting now that he will play the character. Filming of the Netflix series The Sandman was halted by the UK lockdown, but the actor will commence filming his scenes of the first season when restrictions are lifted.

John Constantine was created by writer Alan Moore and artists Rick Veitch, Steve Bissette and John Totleben. He made his debut in The Swamp Thing Saga No. 37 in 1985.

Originally inspired by rock star Sting of The Police, John Constantine is a heavy smoker and an expert on the occult, who often puts anyone close to him in serious danger with his battles with supernatural forces.

Before Taron Egerton, we had seen Keanu Reeves as John Constantine in the 2005 movie. Fans didn’t like it, but over the years it has become a cult story, it is expected that soon, the actor will reprise the role and do the sequel.

Welsh actor Matt Ryan became the most similar version of John Constantine on the CW show and in his appearances in the Arrowverse. Especially in the Legends of Tomorrow series.

The Sandman will not be Taron Egerton’s first experience with comic book characters. Since he has starred in two Kingsman movies, based on the stories created by Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar.

At the moment, there are still not many details of The Sandman Netflix series, but according to the first reports, it will state be quite faithful to Neil Gaiman’s comics.
