In what is perhaps an attempt to separate Batman from the industrial generation of superhero movies, which is the most successful niche in today’s cinema, actor Robert Pattinson reiterated that he does not consider the character to be a superhero or a cornerstone of the genre since its creation in the 1930s.

While having a conversation in the show Today, the actor who will star in The Batman said that “Batman’s not a superhero.” And also said, “It’s weird, I always balk at it. I’m like, ‘It doesn’t count, you need to have, like, magical powers to be a superhero.” In October of this year , Pattinson had already referred to it, stating that: “Batman is not a hero. He is a complicated character. ”

Such phrases obviously in the background are wrong, since a superhero does not necessarily need to have “magical powers.”

Although superheroes generally possess supernatural or superhuman powers, also called “metahumans” in the DC Comics Universe, the biggest factor that defines them is that they are characters who fight against evil, sometimes in a suit that identifies them, and protect citizens.

Although initially, evil was embodied by corrupt businessmen and politicians (in the case of Superman) It also involved solving crimes and stopping criminals (as was with Batman), over time the idea of fighting supervillains was also added. The former, obviously, do not require “magical powers” and this is confirmed when battling the Joker, the biggest nemesis of the bat.

In the case of Batman, his status as a superhero, from its origin, is related to his intellect, mastery of the martial arts and, above all, his technological gadgets. Just like Iron Man, he has the power that comes from being wealthy.

Hence, in the interview in question Pattinson did express that Batman uses a cape, and therefore has a superhero characteristic. That was one of the ways he tried to come back from his previous comment.

Director Matt Reeves might have his hands full with this guy. We can only hope that his portrayal of Batman is worth more than his talk. Maybe he just needs a little instruction on what not to say in the media.
