The new Flash movie, directed by Andy Muschietti, could make extreme changes to the DC Cinematic Universe, according to the director himself.
A few weeks ago, Warner confirmed that Andy Muschietti, director of It, was going to be in charge of the new Flash movie that, if there is no change, would star Ezra Miller.
The news generated high expectations after the success he had with the adaptation of Stephen King’s book; however, the filmmaker had not given statements about it.
During a promotion panel for his most recent film, Underwater, the Argentine director said he has decided to adapt the Flashpoint comic for the new film, but said that it would be a “different version of Flashpoint than you’re expecting.”
Due to the stumbling blocks that DC has suffered in films such as The Justice League, an adaptation of Flashpoint could be the solution to many of those mistakes.
Flashpoint is one of the most famous Flash comics released in 2011. In the comic, Barry Allen travels through time to prevent his archenemy Reverse Flash from killing his mother.
Flash is able to save her, but upon returning to the present time he encounters a reality very different from the one he left.
Aquaman in Atlantis is at war with Wonder Woman and the Amazonians, while Thomas Wayne is Batman, instead of his son Bruce.
Eventually, Barry Allen fixes this reality, although there are still some altered aspects that remained unchanged. Nevertheless, in the comics, that event marked the restart of The New 52.
It is not the first time that a time travel is used to fix past mistakes, so the next Flash movie could reinvent, fix or merge the DC Universe.
The fact that Flash travels in time could justify Batman’s actor change, merge Wonder Woman and Aquaman with the Joaquin Phoenix Joker and could even connect and justify the restart of Suicide Squad.
Flashpoint was already adapted to television before in a 2013 animated film and the Flash television series did the same for the Arrowverse.
There are still details to reveal; however, Andy Muschietti and Ezra Miller could save the DC Universe. The filmmaker also confirmed that the film’s production will begin in 2020 and will be released on July 1, 2022.
