Netflix today announced The Witcher: Blood Origin, a limited series from The Witcher universe. Blood Origin will be a limited six-part live-action series whose story predates The Witcher.

The plot takes place in the elven world 1200 years before the universe of The Witcher, and will tell the story of the origin of the first Wizard, and the events that led to the crucial “conjunction of the spheres”, when the world of monsters, men and elves merged to become one.

Declan de Barra will be executive producer and showrunner, while Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the showrunner of the original series, will be Executive Producer. Andrzej Sapkowski, the writer of the books, will be the series’ creative consultant.

“As a lifelong fantasy fan, I’m very excited to tell the story of The Witcher: Blood Origin. A question has been on my mind since I read The Witcher, what was the Elven world like before the cataclysmic arrival of humans? ” said Declan de Barra. “I have always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations, as science, discovery and culture flourish just before that fall. As vast ranges of knowledge are lost forever in such a short time, often aggravated by colonization and the rewriting of history. Leaving only fragments of the true history of a civilization behind. The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell the story of the elven civilization before its fall and, more importantly, it will reveal the forgotten history of the first Wizard”.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who runs the main series, said:

“I am very happy to collaborate with Declan and the Netflix team on The Witcher: Blood Origin. It is an exciting challenge to explore and expand the The Witcher universe created by Andrzej Sapkowski, and we can’t wait to introduce fans to new characters and an original story that will further enrich our magical and mythical world ”.

The Witcher: Blood Origin will be filmed in the UK. No release date yet.
