Actor Kit Harington left HBO after the end of the hit “Game Of Thrones” and has now signed with Marvel to play the superhero Black Knight in “The Eternals”, the next comic film that will also feature Angelina Jolie in the cast.
The character was created in comics by Roy Thomas and George Tuska based on a superhero concept by Stan Lee and Joe Maneely. He appears for the first time in Avengers # 47 published in 1967. The Black Knight is the altor-ego of Dane Whitman who inherits the Ebony Sword, then joins the Avengers to restore his family’s honor.
The director of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, announced the incorporation of Harington during the D23 convention that Disney celebrated this week in California to present all of its news for the upcoming seasons.
Feige also revealed news about two other films from the company, “Black Widow” and the second part of “Black Panther,” which will hit theaters after the success of the “Avengers: Endgame”, crowned as the highest grossing film in history.
Harington will join a cast consisting of Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Lia McHugh and Don Lee, which was presented just a month ago during the celebration of the Comic-Con film industry at San Diego.
In addition Feige also confirmed that actress Gemma Chan (“Crazy Rich Asians”) and Barry Keoghan (“Dunkirk”) will also join the cast.
Before “The Eternals” will get to see “Black Widow,” with Scarlett Johansson leading a very feminine team in which director Cate Shortland and actresses Florence Pugh and Rachel Weisz stand out.
For its part, Marvel did not want to leave thousands of fans gathered in California without another novelty. They announced the premiere of the second installment of “Black Panther.”
The director Ryan Coogler took the stage to confirm that he will direct this film, whose premiere is scheduled for May 6, 2022, with the provisional title “Black Panther 2” of which he gave no further details.
