According to an article recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine, a 71-year-old man suffered severe poisoning after eating sushi in South Korea.

According to the story, the affected person’s hand swelled 12 hours after eating the rolls. After spending the first days with high fever and intense pain, he decided to go to the doctor, where they discovered that he was infected with the dangerous bacterium Vibrio Vulnificus, which was present in raw fish.

As a result, the hospital removed the infected tissue and prescribed antibiotics, but it did not work, 25 days later his condition worsened.

Due to tissue necrosis, specialists were forced to amputate a large part of the arm to save his life.

According to information from the medical journal VeryWellHealth, the infection is associated with eating sushi and sashimi that contains raw fish. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea, headache and fever.
