After many rumors, finally Warner Bros, together with the production of the film, confirm Mads Mikkelsen as Gellert Grindelwald, that is to say, he will take the place of Johnny Depp as the villain in ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’.

In 2016, Warner Bros. revived JK Rowling’s Wizarding World on the big screen with ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’, a prequel based on a Hogwarts book.

Although at first it seemed like the series would focus on the adventures of the wizard Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne, it soon became clear that the saga concentrated on the time when the dark wizard Grindelwald terrorized the Wizarding World.

Johnny Depp appeared at the end of the first installment, before having a bigger role in the sequel that was released in 2018, in fact, the actor was prepared to play this role for the entire franchise, but after Depp lost a defamation case the entertainer decided to give up the role.

They immediately began to converse about candidates that could be the new face of the villain, the first reports suggested that Mikkelsen was the favorite until the actor declared that he had not been contacted for the role.

Now that Mads Mikkelsen is confirmed as Grindelwald, it is clear that he was just holding back this information from the fans and waiting for the news to be released officially.

According to IndieWire, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that ‘Hannibal’ actor Mads Mikkelsen will play Grindelwald in ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ and its spinoff sequels.

The film is currently being produced at Warner Bros. studios outside London, with some shootings scheduled in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
