Everyone likes cold drinks, but what do you do when all that’s left is the left out of the fridge got drinks? There are a few methods you may have heard of, but there is a way to get that drink colder than ever in less than 2 minutes.
The trick to cooling any drink ridiculously fast is not just a quick mix, but exposure to super-cold temperatures. One of the best ways to do this is to use ice-cold water with salt. Adding salt to the mix increases the melting rate of the ice, however to do this, it uses the warmth of the drink, rapidly decreasing the temperature of the beverage.
This trick can be useful when your refrigerator is very full, or everyone in your party has already taken the cold ones. Adding salt to ice water is usually seen when making and mixing ice cream, but it is very useful when trying to transfer the cold thermal energy in the water to another object. Once the freezing rate is increased and the melting rate is decreased, a greater amount of thermal energy is transferred to the warmer object.
In this way, drinks cool incredibly efficiently. This cooling technique will work on almost any bottle, as long as you have a bowl large enough to hold the mixture. If you don’t have ice, you can also wrap your drink in a cold paper towel and put it in the freezer. Leaving it there for about 10 minutes usually makes it cold, much quicker than usual.
