With the release of the film still far away, actually more than a year, fans know little about “The Batman”.

This is the character’s first reinvention since Ben Affleck last wore the suit, but audiences are beginning to wonder how much of it, if any, crossover to Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.

At least in terms of marketing strategy, there seem to be some similarities. A year before “Joker” was released, a short video gave the world its first look at Arthur Fleck, played by Joaquin Phoenix, with the new character design.

In the final seconds, the video revealed an unobstructed view of the reimagined villain. There was no dialogue, no sense of the history of the “Joker” and not a hint of what Phoenix would bring to the performance.

The same can be said for the first teaser of “The Batman”, released yesterday, in which Robert Pattinson in the new Batman suit is revealed in low red lighting. The video does not show much more than the new Batman logo on his chest, as well as the mask.

The Joker’s success was not always guaranteed, but DC delivered a brilliant work to the public.

By showing a little more than Phoenix standing in front of a dark background, they made the character’s new look instantly iconic.

It was a powerful image that opened a barrage of questions about the tone, appearance, and connection of the film to other DC stories.

For those who were eagerly awaiting to see the new Batman, this clip offers the same mix of emotion and curiosity. Watch the videos below and compare.
