Initially, there was outrage when it was announced that Johnny Depp would join the Harry Potter franchise in Fantastic Beasts films as the infamous Grindelwald, due to the negative publicity surrounding the actor at the time.
But with his messy legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard progressing, the audience definitely seemed to side with the Pirates of the Caribbean star, which could mean more and more for the star in the franchise.
There are rumors that Warner Bros. is interested in developing a series of acclimated TV programs from the Harry Potter Universe. Their plan is to reinforce the original content of programming for HBO Max, and the founder of Knight Edge Media, Caleb Williams, seems to be suggesting that Grindelwald could be a candidate to star in his own show:

Series of the Wizarding World would be a natural progression for the franchise, since, Warner Bros. really wants to compete, through HBO Max against other platforms by creating original content, so it makes sense to consider a great character lived by a great star.
