A gender reversal (get it, Reverse Flash) in Flashpoint is not something that would surprise comic book fans. The protagonist of IT Chapter 2 might still be in talks to give life to the villain.

The Flashpoint event is finally taking form. After a series of delays, the stand alone film of the Flash will accelerate to theaters with an apocalyptic plot of epic proportions.

The villain of the story is none other than Reverse Flash, the most deadliest villain of the Scarlet Speedster in DC Comics. Although his presence was unavoidable in the anticipated film, nobody expected Jessica Chastain to be one of the candidates to play the villain.

This was revealed by “Breaking” Reddit scoop, which notes that director Andy Muschietti and writer Christina Hodson are planning to change the gender of Reverse-Flash so that the actress can give it life.

This decision will take fans of superhero movies by surprise, but it is nothing new for readers of the original comic, created by Geoff Johns illustrated by Andy Kubert. In the comic book, time paradoxes give rise to the most irreverent possibilities, but equally justified by the existence of alternate realities. As an example, Martha Wayne is the one who becomes the Joker after losing her mind because of Bruce’s death.

As recalled, the director has already warned that his adaptation will be a different Flashpoint version than expected. “What captivated me about the Flash is the human drama in it. The human feelings and emotions that play in the drama [of it]. It’s going to be fun, too. I can’t promise that there will be any horror [elements in it], really, but it’s a beautiful human story,” he explained.

DC Comics

In the Flashpoint story, the reality of the DC Universe takes a 180-degree turn. Superman never comes to light, the Amazons are at war with the Atlanteans. Meanwhile, Lois Lane is a member of a Resistance. In this apocalyptic world, Flash is the key to fixing the world and returning everything to normal. For this, he will team up with Batman who is actually Thomas Wayne, Cyborg and other “known” faces.

Its launch meant the birth of the new DC Universe: ambitious and radical alteration of the status quo of the publishing house. In this way, DC Comics presented the most mythical characters in the world of comics to a new generation of readers, with renewed ideas and a fresh approach.
