It seems that the story of the Harry Potter universe is far from over. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a live-action series from the franchise is in the early stages of development by HBO Max.
Sources on the site say that Warner has already started meetings in search of screenwriters and, they are currently exploring various ideas that can be developed in the series. It is important to note, however, that so far no name is associated with the project, as it is in its early stages.
When questioned by THR, Warner and HBO Max said that “There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform.” Contrary to that, reliable sources on the site claim that this is not the case.
According to Variety, whose sources confirmed that a Harry Potter series is in development, they are still deciding whether the project will focus on the “timeline” we already know in Harry’s story, or explore other moments in the Wizarding World. It is possible that the project shows both the past of the Wizarding World and its future.
Keep in mind that the Harry Potter franchise is being expanded in several ways. In addition to a play that tells the misadventures of Harry’s children, the films scripted by JK Rowling, reveal the Wizarding World in the production of Fantastic Beasts – which are shrouded by controversy. Hogwarts Legacy, an open world game focused on the school of magic is also due to be released.
THR reports that the world of ‘Harry Potter’ is one of the most important priorities of Warner Bros. and HBO Max, and they believe that it is time to take a next step in the franchise, which also belongs to the author, JK Rowling.
