Disney and Lucasfilm prepare a new ‘Star Wars’ project that will feature a series written by Marvel Cinematic Universe screenwriter.
Although Disney has earned a well-deserved Star Wars break after the resounding failure of The Rise of Skywalker, the company is working on the next film. It is now known that Rian Johnson will direct a trilogy and that Kevin Feige is also on the list, however, a new project appears on the horizon and will include a screenwriter from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Owens, responsible for writing the series Luke Cage and Agents of SHIELD has been commissioned to develop a new Star Wars movie that will be directed by JD Dillard ( Sleight ).
As of now the details of the story or the platform on which it will be landing are unknown, although it may be one of the many projects that Lucasfilm prepares for Disney +. The rumor indicates that the film will be related to the films previously formulated by Johnson and Feige.
At this time the only projects related to Star Wars are the second season of The Mandalorian, to be released in October this year and the series of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which could come next year after suffering a slight delay.
Another rumor points to the return of George Lucas as scriptwriter and executive producer of a series about Cassian Andor, the character played by actor Diego Luna (Narcos) from Rogue One: a Star Wars story.
The strategy proposed by Bob Iger, president of Disney, points to a television series, although he does not rule out that any of these new prospects can jump onto the big screen in the future. For now, the only successful project is The Mandalorian, by John Favreau, who has captivated the audience thanks to the history and presence of Baby Yoda.
