Disney has rehired James Gunn to direct the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy, after having fired him in July after a series of old and controversial messages on Twitter
came to light. The filmmaker joked about sevral contriversial issues including pedophilia.

A decision that was revealed this Friday. “Marvel Studios has agreed to commence production on Guardians of the Galaxy 3 after Gunn completes Suicide Squad 2,” according to the Deadline. Who also stated that the president of the Disney studios, Alan Horn, backed down after Gunn publicly apologized. The dismissal came not so much because of the tweets, but because of several people who follow the US president, Donald Trump. They saved the tweets from the director, who is well known for his fierce criticism of the US president. This situation created a great uneasiness among the followers.

James Gunn, who was in charge of the first two adventures of the guardians, from the Marvel universe, assured the same day of his dismissal that he assumed responsibility for his behavior.
“My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative. I have regretted them for many years since — not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time. Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today.” he said. The controversy with Gunn was not new. Already in 2012 he had to apologize for sexual comments written a year earlier on a blog. On that occasion, Disney did not consider it a sufficient reason for his dismissal.

A few days later, some of the actors from the saga requested in a letter published on social networks the return of Gunn as director of the third installment. “Although I do not support the inappropriate jokes that James Gunn made years ago, he’s a good man,” wrote actor Chris Pratt on his official Instagram profile. “Personally, I would like to see him again as the director of Volume 3,” he added.

The interpreter included in the publication the letter signed by Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn (his brother), Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff and Michael Rooker.

“We fully support James Gunn,” the letter began, “we are all shoked by his abrupt firing last week and have intentionally waited these ten days to respond in order to thinking, pray, listen and discuss.”

Gunn directed and was in charge of the scripts of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and its sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The first film raised worldwide 773 million dollars, while the second bagged 864 million. He is also executive producer of the latest Avengers films, including the upcoming Avengers: Endgame.
