Lending Netflix passwords from the same accounts either to a grandma or someone who lives far away, like a lover who is now an ex, and does not want to pay for the platform is a very common practice. However, did you know that the company does not allow it according to its guidelines? Sure you didn’t, athough they had not done anything regarding this, it seems to be coming to an end, as the streaming giant has informed the public about some measures being taken against sharing Netflix passwords.

This week through social networks, some screenshots made by users of said streaming service have been published where a notification can be seen saying: “If you don’t live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching.”.

The above basically means that to view the content, you must live with the account holder or have the same IP address; nonetheless, there might be a way around this sharing account block, because those who pay for this service can provide third parties with verification codes in order to use the platform. So is there really any point to this since obviously, people are going to share the verification codes as well?

Although these measures against sharing Netflix passwords can be somewhat controversial for many, in reality their objective is to strengthen the security of the accounts especially, if someone is hacking the username and passwords.

According to a company spokesperson after talking to The Streamable: “This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorized to do so.”

As mentioned, it is still a test, so we will have to wait and see how this new security system turns out.
