Paul Rudd, recently recognized for his performance as Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, confirmed Wednesday that he is also part of the new installment, “Ghostbusters.”
Rudd announced his incorporation with a video where he uses his improvisational skills to reveal the news.
Located opposite the building of the New York Fire Department number eight, better known as the home of the Ghostbusters team from the original 1984 film, Rudd first analyzes the people who come to take pictures without showing his face.
A few seconds later, the 50-year-old actor recorded himself wearing sunglasses and says he “received the call,” hinting at the classic phrase from the saga, “Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters.”
Although the Ghostbusters team will be different from the original films, some familiar faces will return, such as Dan Aykroyd, who was also one of the writers from the first installment, in addition to Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver.
The new feature film was originally called “Ghostbusters III,” but according to people involved in the film, it will be called “Ghostbusters 2020.”
The film will not be a reboot of the saga, but, as announced by its director, Jason Reitman, known for his work in “Juno” (2007), is a sequel that will serve to “pass the torch” to a new generation of Ghostbusters.
If there are no delays in filming, the movie will be released in mid-July 2020, in the same season in which two important releases are expected: Christopher Nolan’s new film, “Tenet”, and the first spin-off from Spiderman.
