Since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker put an end to the Star Wars sequel trilogy, there have been many fans who have dedicated themselves to imagining alternative conclusions for the so-called “Skywalker Saga.”
Either based on the ideas that Colin Trevorrow proposed at some point for Episode 9 or imagining what they would have liked to have seen on the big screen. Several fans have been interested in hypothetical alternative versions of the saga, especially wanting to know, what it would have been if George Lucas was in charge of the sequel project.
After all, George Lucas left the saga in the hands of Disney, long ago the creator of the franchise had ideas for stories set after Return of The Jedi. Although to date, only limited precursors have been revealed on those ideas from Lucas, recently an excerpt from a book was released that paints a better picture of this other version of the Star Wars sequels .
It turns out that an excerpt from The Star Wars Archives 1999-2005, a book edited by Taschen that focuses on the making of the prequels and was made in collaboration with George Lucas and Lucasfilm, was released through Reddit.
In that text, which has not yet been officially published, it is suggested that Lucas intended Leia to be the protagonist of the new films, although Luke would also have had an important role.
“The movies are about how Leia, I mean, who else is going to be the leader? – She’s trying to rebuild the Republic … Luke is trying to restart the Jedi, ” Lucas revealed.
But the tasks of Leia and Luke were obviously uphill and as for the main antagonist, Lucas intended to have Darth Maul, who in addition to taking hold of the power void that had remained, would have an apprentice who would probably be known to fans of the old canon.
“Darth Maul trained a girl, Darth Talon, who was in the comic books, as his apprentice. She was the new Darth Vader and most of the action was with her. So these were the two main villains of the trilogy, ”Lucas revealed.
With those characters in play, Lucas finally pointed out that his plan was to wrap up the plot in a very different way than what we saw in Episode 9.
“By the end of the trilogy Luke would have rebuilt much of the Jedi, and we would have the renewal of the New Republic, with Leia, Senator Organa, becoming the Supreme Chancellor in charge of everything,” Lucas said. “So she ended up being the Chosen One.”
No doubt all that sounds interesting and probably would have led the saga on a very different path, although, elements such as Luke’s death apparently would have remained. But, for better or for worse, that is not the end that was given to the “Skywalker Saga” and for now it will only remain as an anecdote of what could have been.
