Episode 2 of season 2 of The Mandalorian is finally available and it had many hidden references in store for us. You can read about the previous surprises from episode 1 as well on our website. Let’s count down the ones from this new episode.
Back Go The Begining
Din Djarin is back in Mos Eisley, a town that can be seen in Star Wars: A New Hope . This is where the famous Cantina is located where Obi-Wan and Luke go to look for Han Solo. It is also in this Cantina where the Mandalorian goes.
A Prominent Decoration
If you didn’t know, to create the IG-88 droid in The Empire Strikes Back, the production teams recycled decoration from the Cantina in A New Hope. Well this trimming is back in episode 2 of season 2 of The Mandalorian.
A Big Ant
This easter egg is not confirmed at the moment, but the alien who looks like a big ant could be a tribute to the director of episode 2, Peyton Reed, the director of Ant-Man 1 & 2.
Sabacc
When the Mandalorian visits Peli and Dr. Mandible, they are playing a game of Sabacc. The famous game with which Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon against Lando Calrissian.
A Familiar Language
When Din Djarin finds himself having to speak with his passenger, he attempts to speak with her using the language of the Hutt, one of the largest criminal organizations in the galaxy. And we all know who would use that language, the distinguished Jabba the Hutt.
The New Republic
We had doubts about the formation of the New Republic during this time in history, but the two X-Wings who come to regulate Din Djarin, say it is well established. They are there to hunt down the last Imperials.
A Friendly Face
One of the two X-Wing pilots is none other than Dave Filoni, one of the directors on The Mandalorian series and the man behind Star Wars: Clones War and Star Wars: Rebels.
An Old Mercenary
To communicate with Din Djarin, the passenger uses one of the mercenary droids that stalked the Mandalorian in the first season.
Spiders
We’ve never seen a spider in Star Wars, but they ‘ve been around for a long time. These large spiders were even dreamed of by Ralph McQuarrie during the development of the Empire Strikes Back. The designer had imagined such a spider on the planet Dagobah. They had not been used by George Lucas, but had finally appeared in video games and novels of the extended universe.
A Direct Connection To The First Season
When the two X-Wing pilots come to help Din Djarin at the end of the episode, they evoke prisoner X-6-9-11 who is none other than the Twi’lek for whom he is going on a rescue mission in the first season.
