They say that a mother would do anything for her children. Although this idea may seem like a common cliché, it is certainly as true as the story of this 51-year-old woman who will give birth to her own grandson. Mom’s love has many forms and this is one of them.
Mrs. Julie Loving has become a trend in social networks after the noble intention with which she wants to help her own daughter, who has unfortunately had to struggle with a fertility problem.
In Chicago, Illinois, and surely in various parts of the world, Julie Loving has received the applause of Internet users thanks to the fact that she offered herself as the ‘gestational carrier’ of Brianna Lockwood, her 29-year-old daughter. The point is that the young woman has gone through various procedures to become a mother, but unfortunately has not had very much success.
Brianna has already gone through four failed embryo transfers, two miscarriages, and one ectopic pregnancy. The last intervention she underwent was a D&C procedure that caused a complication in her uterine tissue. Because of this, the young woman and her husband Aaron Lockwood decided to try the option of a ‘gestational carrier’.
However, this last alternative is not really accessible. According to Brian Kaplan, a fertility doctor for the Lockwood family, said to Today magazine, “most Americans cannot afford a gestational carrier” because the price for this type of help is around $ 100,000.
Seeing that her daughter had not been able to get pregnant and that the expense was way too high, Julie Loving proposed to Brianna that she could take over as the ‘gestational carrier’, an idea that the 29-year-old did not feel comfortable with.
At first, Brianna asked her mother not to insist on the notion because it would be something strange and due to Julie’s age (51 years), the procedure might not work. After attending a consultation with Dr. Kaplan, the plan was put together and testing began to see if Brianna’s mother would be an ideal candidate.
Kaplan was not very optimistic about it because, after so many years working this type of procedure, she estimates that the ideal age to be a ‘gestational carrier’ is 40 years or less. However, Julie passed the tests and the procedure was performed successfully.
Today Julie and Brianna share an Instagram account where they upload photos of the pregnancy process. Both they and Aaron seem happy that they will soon have a new member of the family. As one of his photos says, “made with a lot of love and a little science.”
