A sand tornado hit on Tuesday August 25 in Puglia, Italy. Many videos of this impressive phenomenon have been shared on the Web. Five people sustained minor injuries during this weather anomoly, reports the daily Giornale di Puglia.
Vacationers bathing on the beach of Pescoluse in Puglia, Italy, were interrupted on August 25 by a rather terrifying climatic phenomenon , namely a sand tornado, reports the regional press. The bathers had to be evacuated urgently after a huge column of sand appeared on the horizon.

Once they saw that the wind intensified and the sand rose high in the air, swimmers rushed to grab their belongings and fleed the beach.
According to the Italian daily LecceSette, the tornado lasted about fifteen minutes.
In the end, the tornado caused more fear than harm: no serious damage was reported. Five people were injured, reports the local daily Giornale di Puglia. Two of them, a 21-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man were the only ones seriously affected. The man, a hotel manager, was struck by a piece of wood blown by the wind, the media said. Both are recovering.
