While the coronavirus continues to claim lives and spread in different parts of the world, in China they have already found a drug to fight it, according to sources, it has already managed to cure more than 1,500 infected patients. The medication is Interferon alfa 2B (IFNrec), a Cuban biotechnological antiviral that began production since last January 25 at the Chinese-Cuban ChangHeber plant, located in the Changchun, Jilin province.

So far, the outbreak of the coronavirus has already killed 722 people, while some 34,456 patients have been infected in China. However, the IFNrec, which is only one of the 30 prescriptions that the Chinese National Health Commission chose to cure this respiratory condition – which is spread from person to person – has already begun to show incredible progress.

As he explained to the Cuban television the scientific and commercial advisor of the President from BioCubaFarma, Luis Herrera Martínez, the selection of the IFNrec to counteract the spread of the coronavirus, was due to the effectiveness it previously had shown against viruses with similar characteristics.

“Interferon alfa 2B has the advantage that in situations like these it is a mechanism to protect itself, its use prevents patients with the possibility of aggravating and complicating from reaching that stage, and finally have death as a result, ” Luis Herrera Martinez told the Gramma newspaper.

“Our support to the Chinese government and people in their efforts to fight the coronavirus,” he asserted.

IFNrec is also used to treat HIV infections, recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (generated by human papilloma), accumulated condyloma and hepatitis types B and C. It is also effective in cancer treatments.

For many years, a technology transfer was formulated with the Chinese province, which emerged in the joint plant where the medication is made “with exactly the same technology as us, and that responds to the quality standards that were approved by the authorities.” from both countries, Martinez added.
