Anyone who considers themselves a fan of the hit series ‘Friends’ is familiar with this moment, there is no excuse. This is one of the most popular inside jokes, but also the one that has most divided fans, since there are those who believe that Ross and Rachel were on a break and there are others who do not support the idea. Despite 25 years after the series ended, David Shwimmer spoke of this iconic moment in the series and clarifies his position.

Ross always used the phrase “we were on a break” when he wanted to justify the adventure he had with a woman while in a relationship with Rachel. Throughout the series he repeats it in different circumstances and that became something that even fans yell at when they see it, or at least that’s what the actor said.

During the interview Shwimmer also revealed his position on whether Ross and Rachel were really on a break.

“Obviously there will be people who feel compelled to shout ‘PIvot!’ or ‘We were on a break!’ People are so passionately divided on whether or not they were on a break. ” Unsurprisingly, Fallon asked which side of the discussion he is on, to which he replied: “Yeah, it’s not even a question,” he said. “They were on a break.”
