The promised release has just been delivered, Netflix published its “special sequel” to The Father of the Bride last Friday.
As you probably know, this is not a new movie and therefore you don’t need a streaming subscription to see this short film called Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish). However, this isn’t one of those virtual movie cast reunions that have overflowed the networks during the pandemic, either.
Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish) is a scripted proposal video call style which continues the stories of the characters from The Father of the Bride and its sequel. In that sense, throughout the video you can see from the original cast, Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Martin Short, Kieran Culkin and George Newborn return as their respective characters.
Introduced as new characters are Alexandra Shipp, Ben Platt, Florence Pugh and Robert DeNiro.
With these participants, Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish) is dedicated to revealing what has happened in the lives of these characters and the fact that this pandemic has also changed all of their lives, especially the way things are done now, for example, Matty’s marriage (Culkin) to Rachel (Shipp).
In addition to emotionally touching fans of The Father of the Bride, the purpose of this “sequel” in times of pandemic is to raise funds for World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering food to children, families, individuals elderly and health workers during the pandemic.
