While countless of old characters have been speculated to make a comeback in the next Spider-Man movie, the new reports state a major character from the Tobey Maguire trilogy is back. According to the GWW portal, Alfred Molina, the original Dr. Octopus, will return to the wall-crawlers franchise in Spider-Man 3.

For now, there are no details about how big of a role he will play in the film, but they stated that Alfred Molina was caught on the set of Spider-Man 3 working on some action scenes. In addition, the portal ensures that the actor has been shooting scenes for two weeks.

The page ensures that we will see Alfred Molina as Dr. Octopus once again, but it has not been possible to confirm if the actor will play the same version of the character that we saw in Spider-Man 2 of the original Sam Raimi trilogy or if it is a remake for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Recently, it was confirmed that Jamie Foxx was returning to the franchise to take on the role of Electro one more time, but the actor revealed that he would be playing a different version of the character we saw in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, so this might be the same result, with the role of Alfred Molina.

If this news is substantiated, it would be an awesome way to re-introduce one of the best villains from the past Spider-Man movies.  Who knows, maybe Dr. Octopus could create the Sinister Six faction to defeat Spider-Man.

Update

The portal The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Alfred Molina’s version of Doctor Octopus will be in ‘Spider-Man 3’, which gives one more point about the live-action adaptation of Spider-Verse, since Jamie Foxx will also join as Electro, a character he played for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. Now with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield also in the film, this story is going to be out of this universe.
