Since appearing in the pilot of The Mandalorian series, Baby Yoda has become the undisputed star of the internet. In the new chapter titled “The Tragedy”, Din Djarin not only faces Fennec Shand and the bounty hunter Boba Fett, but ends with Baby Yoda once again being kidnapped by the Dark Side.
As if that were not enough, Grogu’s imprisonment shows us the darker side of the character, as we discover that The Child is capable of using the Dark Side of the Force. This is a breakthrough for the Empire, who want to return to govern the entire galaxy.
Recently, The Mandalorian has revealed the origin of Grogu and his connection to an ancient Jedi Order. Asohka Tano discovered in the chapter titled “The Jedi” that Grogu was a young Padawan from a Jedi Temple that was destroyed during the Clone Wars.
Although most of the Padawans and Jedi were killed by Darth Vader and his henchmen, an unknown individual hid The Child from the Empire. After these events, we do not know what happened next, until Din Djarin finds Grogu.
Everything seems to indicate that Grogu barely survived with a group of Jedi being kidnapped by the Empire, which was used as part of the cloning experiments by Moff Gideon and Emperor Palpatine.
However, the last episode of the series offers more details about Grogu’s true power, as we see him use the Force to strangle two Stormtroopers who were trying to seize him, a signature move form the Sith like Darth Vader and his grandson Kylo Ren, Ben Solo.
Also recall that Din Djarin asked Ahsoka Tano to train Grogu in the Path of the Jedi, but she refused. Mostly because, Grogu is too tied to the Mandalorian, whom he loves like a father, and this attachment could push him to sink into the Dark Side of the Force.
It should be noted that despite his innocence, Grogu does not seem to fully distinguish between good from evil. In episode 7 of season 1, The Child strangled Cara Dune using the Force, a display of power typically used by the Sith Lords, primarily Darth Vader himself.
As you can see, the Dark Side of the Force is strong in The Child, and that may explain why the Empire wants him.
In the past no one knew of the existence of Grogu, as even Asohka Tano was shocked when she met him. This suggests that whoever was protecting The Child did everything in their power to hide him from the Empire.
The question of Grogu’s switch to the Dark side of the Force is obviously at the center of The Mandalorian series. What will be the fate of Grogu? Will Mando have to kill the one he considers his son with his own hands? Hopefully not, it would be insane and very hurtful to have to see that.
