The protests against racism seen in the United States, which has influenced other countries following the death of George Floyd, have begun to question how offensive some films can be.

HBO Max supported the lawsuits by removing the “Gone with the Wind” film, for showing the slavery stage of the United States. This decision lasted a few days, since the platform has returned the film to the catalog, now includes an introduction that explains the film’s historical context.

However, this decision was the beginning of what will be a list of censors for several films and series. The British network Sky followed in HBO’s footsteps searching for content that may be offensive and has selected more than 20 films with a warning about their content.

For the streaming platform, movies like “The Goonies,” “Aladdin,” “Aliens” and both versions of Disney’s “The Jungle Book” can undermine sensibilities.

In the case of the Goonies, the problem lies in the character Sloth, who is the deformed brother of Fratellis. However, the character is a monstrous representation of people suffering from brain damage or a birth defect.

While Aliens , actress Janette Goldstein , who is white, plays a Latina marine. To characterize her character, Goldstein had to use make up to darken her skin, wear contact lenses, and change her accent and tone of voice.

In the 1980s Goldstein was praised for her performance and Sloth was a funny heroic character, but today, they are considered offensive and inappropriate for some viewers.
