According to DC, a 22-year-old actress prevailed over 425 other actresses who also wanted to play Superman’s cousin.

The DC Extended Universe has chosen Colombian actress Sasha Calle as its new Supergirl, various media revealed this Friday.

Sasha, 22, will become the first Latina Supergirl, and reports from sites like Deadline claim that she beat out more than 425 more actresses for the role that will see her debut in the upcoming movie The Flash.

The actress impressed Flash director Andy Muschietti with her audition, including DC Films boss Walter Hamada and producers. According to the publication, the producers were “impressed” by the “toughness and vulnerability” of the young woman.

Calle, who is recognized for her work in productions like The Young and the Restless, had to audition with the actor, Ezra Matthew Miller who will play Barry Allen in The Flash.

The film is expected to be released in 2022. So filming is scheduled to start in April in the UK.
