The production of the live-action remake of Mulan officially kicked off, and here is the first glimpse of Liu Yifei wearing the Hua Mulan attire.
Apparently, this remake will follow the general plot of the animated film from 1998, and was described as “the epic adventure of a reckless young woman who takes on the appearance of a man to be able to go fight against the Northern Invaders who seek to attack China. As the greatest daughter of a respected warrior, Hua Mulan is motivated, determined and quick with her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she takes the place of her father like Hua Jun, becoming one of the best warriors in China. ”
The film will be directed in New Zealand and China, and is scheduled to arrive in March 2020.
Along with Yifei the film will feature martial arts master Jet Li, the legendary Donnie Yen (Rogue One), Crouching Tiger, Jason Scott Lee (Hidden Dragon) and Yoson An (The Meg), as well as Utkarsh Ambudkar, Ron Yuan, Tzi Ma, Rosalind Chao and Cheng Pei-Pei.
Mulan is being directed by Niki Caro, with a script by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynes. Jason T. Reed, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner will serve as producers, with Barrie M. Osborne, Bill Kong and Tim Coddington as executive producers.
Mulan was scheduled to premiere later this year, but was delayed by almost a year and a half. Last year, Liu Yifei was chosen to give life to Hua Milan and Niki Caro was selected to fill the director’s chair. Although the film will take the same route as the animated film, some reports indicate that it will not be a musical .
