Although perhaps this film is not so well known compared to others which have acquired a longer continuance in the collective mind, like some of the most successful films from the 80s, Back to the Future or Ghostbusters, this 1986 film produced by David Foster and Lawrence Turman, has received treasured cult movie status for several years.

The film focuses on the character Number 5, known as Johnny 5, which is a robot that was created purposely as a military experiment, was struck by lightning, and from that moment on began to develop human characteristics.

According to some reports from Deadline, apparently this 1980s movie will be the next experiment on the reboot route that Hollywood has undertaken lately. Only, this time, the film will join this inclusion quota that has also permeated film productions in recent years and will incorporate Latino representation. This, largely due to the work of screenwriters Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman.

The original film couldn’t have embodied the 80s better; from the cast, which included Ally Sheedy, The Breakfast Club and Steve Guttenberg, from Police Academy. The original was directed by John Badham, who seems to have a penchant for these themes, since he was also commissioned to direct War Games a few years later. It is very likely that the main character, Johnny 5, will be updated, we just hope he is not another victim of CGI.
