After months of rumors about whether Venom played by the actor Tom Hardy in the next Sony Pictures film, is or is not in the same universe as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems that the answer is unfortunately, no.

A little more than a year ago, Sony Pictures announced that it was in preproduction of an individual film centered on the character from Marvel Comics known as Venom. The actor that Sony chose to give life to this evil villain of Spider-Man was the superstar Tom Hardy.

Fans quickly began to elucidate theories about how Venom would connect with the MCU from Marvel Studios, including a cameo by Tom Holland as Peter Parker was rumored in the Sony movie, but it seems that it was an eventuality that ‘Venom’ would have no connection with the MCU.

Sony

Entertainment Weekly published a post about ‘Venom’, saying that this movie will receive a lot of attention during the San Diego Comic Con which takes place in a week. In this article the director of the film  Ruben Fleischer and his star Tom Hardy shed some light on the plans that the studio has for the symbiote, but there was no mention of the character of Spider-Man, who is essential in the world of Eddie Brock (his history of origin would be impossible without the wall-crawler).

‘Venom’ is the first film focused on a character from the Spider-Man world that Sony is investing in. Although it is a world apart from that of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’. Also, Venom does not play a part of the agreement that Sony has with Disney which allows Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to be at the MCU from Marvel Studios. This is not a big surprise since it is something that the fans expected, even so it is still a bit disappointing that Sony does not present a movie without the Spider-Man from  Marvel Cinematic Universe.
