Sean Connery leaves behind an extensive cinematic legacy, although he will always be remembered for being the first James Bond.
Scottish actor Sean Connery has died at the age of 90. The actor was one of the last great legends of cinema, immortalized for his role as the secret agent James Bond.
Connery, who had been away from the big screen for years, leaves a long legacy of films such as ‘Robin and Marian’ (Richard Lester, 1976), ‘The Untouchables’ (Brian De Palma, 1987) or his great collaborations with the director Sidney Lumet, as ‘The Offense’ (1973).
Connery won an Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in Eliot Ness’s “The Untouchables.” The Scotsman was the first actor to give life to James Bond, appearing in a total of seven films between 1962 and 1983.
‘Dr. No’ (1962), ‘From Russia with Love’ (1963), ‘Goldfinger’ (1964), ‘Thunderball’ (1965), ‘007: You Only Live Twice’ (1967) and ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ (1971).
It took ten years for him to accept again to play the MI6 agent, created by the writer Ian Fleming, in ‘Never say never again’. His last film was ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’, released in 2003, after which he retired and went to live in The Bahamas.
Thomas Sean Connery was born on August 25, 1930 in Fountainbridge (Edinburgh). The son of a house keeper and a truck driver, Connery did not have an easy time getting started in the world of acting, since he had to leave school at the age of 13 and take on various jobs, the first of them as a milk delivery man.
After that, he served for a time as a soldier in the Royal Navy, from there he became a driver, lifeguard, nude model for students of the Edinburgh School of Art and even a coffin polisher.
During the following years, Connery participated in numerous plays, films and series until his perseverance was rewarded with the proposal to play James Bond.
At the moment, the official causes of his departure have not been shared, but taking into account that Connery was already 90 years old, we can assume that it was natural causes, unless some other news about it emerges later. Of course, the alternative is, he passed away due to insurmountable elegance and since this world could no longer contain it, he went home.
