After the end that Tony Stark / Iron Man had in Avengers: Endgame and the beginning of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we all deduced that Robert Downey Jr. had said goodbye to his iconic character. However, the actor has said in an interview that MCU followers may not have seen the last of his work as Iron Man.
His statements were given in an interview for the Dolittle film, in which he not only acted but also produced with his wife Susan Downey. He said he believes that his role as Iron Man has more or less come to an end, but “should never be said.” Although it is a casual comment, his statement is not a small aspect, after all Iron Man has been one of his most important roles, in addition to the character having great pertinence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor said:
”Yeah. Anything could happen. … As far as I’m concerned, I hung up my guns and I’m good to let it go. I also think Marvel is on this journey now and they’re trying a bunch of other stuff, and I’m excited for them to see how all that goes. It’s hard to project.”
It was in 2008 that Downey Jr. first appeared as Tony Stark in Iron Man, directed by Jon Favreau, a film that, as we know, began Phase 3 of the MCU – a phase that came to an end with Avengers: Endgame -. Since then Downey has given life to Iron Man for more than 10 years. On the other hand, Phase 4 has not started without him, in Spider Man: Away from home, released in 2019 he appears and it is already rumored that in the next film of this ambitious stage of the MCU he will do the same, that is in Black Widow, which will be released on May 1, 2020.
