A few days ago Guillermo del Toro admited that a crossover between Pacific Rim and the Monsterverse would have been a dream come true. Obviously, it was only an unfulfilled wish of the “Pacific Rim” director, but the auteur of “Pacific Rim 2”, Steven DeKnight has revealed that there were indeed plans for this crossover to take place.
When asked about this possibility by a fan on Twitter, Steven DeKnight had this to say:
That was actually my long term plan. PR3 was structured to end in a way that married the two universes. https://t.co/n7J3lQ90Xx

The truth is that Legendary Pictures holds all the cards to make this crossover between both universes possible, even though there do not seem to be any plans for the third installment of Pacific Rim, and no plans to expand the Monsterverse after the movie “Godzilla Vs Kong”.
In Pacific Rim, the film tells the story of how monsters arrive through a “Rift”, and from time to time, giants, called “Kaiju” (Monster in Japanese) come to earth, seeking to destroy it.
As time goes by, the waves of Kaiju are more numerous and more powerful.
But the world tries to remedy it by creating an army of Jaegers, giant robots controlled by two pilots, which must have a very powerful mental link, so that the Mecha can be piloted to perfection and destroy the Kaijus.
While in the Monsterverse, the Monarch scientific organization has been studying these beings for as long as they are aware of them. Study and analyze everything about them, one of the first monsters sighted is Kong, on a lost island.
Recently, Godzilla is the one who has awakened, along with other giant beasts, but unlike most of them, it seems Godzilla is willing to be the protector of humanity.
But those roles seem to be offset in Godzilla Vs Kong since something has transpired angering Godzilla, and humanity has no choice but to ask Kong for help, one of the two will probably parish after this movie.
In this universe, there are no Jaegers, in the other Kaijus or monsters, are the adversaries.
