One of Nicolas Cage‘s most valuable franchises is ‘National Treasure‘, whose third film has been in development for over thirteen years and will finally get off the ground.
Walt Disney hired screenwriter Chris Bremner to work on the script for the third film. His most recent work was the touted ‘Bad Boys Forever‘. Bremner is also working on the fourth film in the ‘Bad Boys‘ franchise.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Jerry Bruckheimer will return as a producer.
So far, only actor Nicolas Cage is confirmed in the cast, but everything indicates that Harvey Keitel, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, and Jon Voight should also return to the new production.
Director Jon Turteltaub, who led the first two ‘National Treasure’ movies, revealed that the story must steer away from the United States and focus on Europe and Asia.
Originally released in 2004, ‘ National Treasure’ tells the story of a wealth hunter for lost treasure that no one believes exists, having been amassed for centuries and transported across several continents to prevent it from being stolen. His investigations lead him to discover the existence of a coded map hidden in the US declaration of independence.
