The first images of Mortal Kombat, the next film in the franchise that will be released this year, were published today by Entertainment Weekly.
The new images reveal several of the characters already known in the franchise, such as Sub-Zero, Jax, Sonya, Kano and Scorpion. In addition to them, we found out about the character played Lewis Tan, who was previously in Deadpool 2. His role was a mystery until now; he will portray Cole, a character originally created for the film.
While Kung Lao and Liu Kang appear side by side with an extremely faithful likeness to the games, we can also see what appears to be an initial confrontation between Scorpion and Sub-Zero, when they were still known only as Hanzo and Bi-Han.
The film stars actors Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Josh Lawson as Raiden, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Chin Han Tsang Tsung and Elidda Cadwell as Nitara.
Mortal Kombat is scheduled to be released on April 16, 2021, simultaneously arriving in theaters and on HBO Max.
